Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini
No decision coming from an emergency meeting of the Market Basket board of directors held Monday night in Boston. That’s the word according to the group of workers known as “Save Market Basket.”
As the Market Basket worker protests continue over the ongoing company leadership dispute, Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini’s office is referring those who normally walk to Market Basket to consider MVRTA bus routes to alternative shopping areas. In a Facebook post, Fiorentini says Bus 01 goes to the Loop in Methuen which has a Stop and Shop. The bus route runs from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bus 13 goes to State Line Plaza where there is a Shaw’s Market. Bus 15 travels to Target. Fiorentini says all service is every 90 minutes, and suggests checking the MVRTA website for more details on the service.
The mayor also announced resident are now able to bring more than two bags of groceries on buses. “Mayor Dan Rivera of Lawrence and I have just negotiated an agreement with the MVRTA that while the crisis is underway with Market Basket, customers will be able to take up to four bags of groceries on the buses. We know that this ordeal has been a hardship for our citizens and we will continue to work with you.”
