Updated: Prof. Wolff Discusses Market Basket Tonight on WHAV

Richard D. Wolff is professor of Economics Emeritus, University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Richard D. Wolff, professor of Economics Emeritus, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, offers his commentary tonight on the employee uprising against Market Basket.

WHAV brought the recent controversy to the attention of Wolf, who now resides in New York City. While Wolff will be a guest on WHAV’s Open Mike Show next Monday night, the professor discusses the dispute tonight on his own Pacifica Network radio show, Economic Update.

“One side believes in profit sharing—bringing the mass of workers in to share some of the profits that, after all, the workers helped to produce. Whereas the other wing of the family on the board is more interested in distributing the profits to the shareholders—namely to themselves.”

WHAV, also a Pacifica affiliate, presents Economic Update tonight at 9 p.m. Wolff compares the uprising to similar actions against kings during medieval times. He also discusses the local impact. “It is becoming a contentious issue all over New England what happens here,” he explains.

Wolff also discusses his planned Bill Maher appearance, the Arizona execution, Derek Jeter tickets, Chinese meat scandal, Obama’s low polls, the changing meaning of socialism and differences between private profit and social well-being
