Haverhill Area Shows Largest Employment Gains

The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported Tuesday that the seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates for June were up in 19 labor market areas. Rates were down in two areas; and one area remained unchanged according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over the year, unemployment rates were down in all the labor market areas.

The preliminary statewide unadjusted unemployment rate estimate for June was 5.6 percent, up 0.4 of a percentage point from May. Over the year, the statewide unadjusted rate was down 1.8 percent from the June, 2013, rate of 7.4 percent.

During June, nine of the 12 areas for which job estimates are published recorded seasonal job gains. Jobs were unchanged in the Lowell-Billerica-Chelmsford area. Since June 2013, 11 of the 12 areas added jobs with the largest percentage gains include the Haverhill-North Andover-Amesbury area.
