The lifespan of the Greater Haverhill Foundation has received a 50-year extension.

The development group was formed in 1964 to foster the creation of the Ward Hill Industrial Park. Its corporate duration, however, was limited to the 50-year period that ended last month. Haverhill Rep. Brian S. Dempsey, however, filed a bill last year to extend the life of the nonprofit group to 100 years.

Foundation Manager Ronald Trombley gave the first public acknowledgment of the extension during Tuesday’s Harbor Place groundbreaking ceremony.

The bill passed the house and senate last October and Gov. Deval Patrick signed the lease on life in December.
