Alice L. (Foisy) Poirier

MADISON, Wisc.–Alice L. (Foisy) Poirier, age 87 of Madison, WI, formerly of Haverhill, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2014 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Poirier was the wife of Alfred N. Poirier.

Born in Haverhill, MA on January 19, 1927, Mrs. Poirier was the daughter of the late Albert and Roberta (Stevens) Foisy and later Odiele (Paradis) Foisy. She attended Haverhill schools, worked in the local shoe industry as a heel setter, and married her husband Alfred in 1946. She was a homemaker and lived in the Haverhill area for most of her life until eventually retiring to travel across the country with her husband and settle Las Vegas, NV and later in Madison, WI to be closer to family.

Alice was highly devoted to her family. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Haverhill. She loved nature, traveling, music and working on crafts. She knitted and crocheted avidly and spent much of her time in later years making gifts for friends, charities, and new acquaintances. She was remarkable in her unending kindness, cheery disposition, and lifelong focus on caring for others, particularly her dear friend, the late Gladys Anderson.

Besides her husband of 67 years, Alfred, she is survived by her children, Beverly of Westbridge, BC, David of Lutz, FL and his son David jr., Mark, his wife Majka and son Alexander of Warsaw, Poland, Frank of Las Vegas, NV, Jeff and his wife Noreen of Madison WI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Ruth Klinch, Louise Ayers, Gloria Fairbrother, Amidas Sayers, and Winifred Dupont.

The family would like to extend their heart-felt appreciation to the staff at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, WI for their devotion and compassion, and the wonderful care given to her.

Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 5 – 8 p.m., at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01832. Her funeral will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church in Haverhill. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Haverhill.
