Census Report Show Rockingham Hosts Oldest Residents

New U.S. Census Bureau population estimates pinpoint Rockingham County, New Hampshire and Middlesex County, Massachusetts among the oldest and youngest counties respectively in the Boston-Cambridge-Newton Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

U.S. Census Bureau reported Thursday the U.S. median age ticked up from 37.5 years on July 1, 2012, to 37.6 years on July 1, 2013.

As the nation aged, so did every county in the Boston-Cambridge-Newton Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The counties in the MSA with the highest median age on July 1, 2013, included Rockingham County, NH at 43.5 This means that half the population was older than this age and half, younger.

The youngest counties – those with the lowest median age—included Middlesex County, MA at 38.5.

The Boston-Cambridge-Newton Metropolitan Statistical Area is comprised of seven counties: Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth and Suffolk Counties in MA; and Rockingham and Strafford Counties in N.H.
