City Considers Strict Regulations on Outdoor Events

A Haverhill City Council subcommittee holds a public hearing Thursday evening on proposed stricter regulations for public events which charge admission.

The council’s Administration and Finance Committee has been reviewing Mayor James J. Fiorentini administration’s proposal to require city council approval to license public shows and exhibitions and impose varying fees based on audience size. Those fees would pay for city services including police detail assignments.

The issue has been in debate amid recent reports of traffic backups and overflow parking during a large public event held at Kimball Farm on East Broadway near the Rocks Village neighborhood. The public hearing by the Administration and Finance Committee begins at 7 p.m., Thursday in room 204 at Haverhill City Hall.
