News of a corporate shakeup at a longtime local supermarket chain prompts calls for a rally in support of its now-ousted president.

On Monday, the board of directors of Demoulas Super Markets, Inc. voted to remove President Arthur T. Demoulas and two other executives from the company which owns and operates the Market Basket chain. A group of Arthur T. supporters known as “We Are Market Basket” is asking customers, employees and vendors to attend a rally Tuesday afternoon at a Market Basket store in Chelsea–one of the chain’s largest stores.

The Arthur T. Demoulas supporters allege another faction of the family on the company board acted out of greed. A board of directors website says the board is responsible for the oversight of the senior executives who are charged with the responsibility for executing the strategies and the plans and complying with policies set by the board.

Two factions of the Demoulas family have been locked in a well-publicized, decades-long dispute over control of the Market Basket supermarket empire.
