Ward Hill energy from waste plant Covanta has been named 2018’s Business of the Year by the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, the local small business group announced ahead of a Feb. 8 recognition breakfast.

In addition to celebrating Covanta’s efforts, the Haverhill Chamber also plans to praise Maria’s Family Restaurant, Creatorpult and Driscoll Funeral Home, among several others, for their community-based business efforts.

Scott Brandolini, the co-owner of Hard Body Meals, will be named the Chamber’s rising star, while Jeff Grassie is set to receive an award for his volunteer efforts to make the Haverhill Farmers Market a success.

Two special awards will be handed out at next week’s gathering, Chamber President Dougan Sherwood said. To celebrate the memory of late Veterans Northeast Outreach Center Executive Director John E. Ratka, the Chamber will issue a first of its kind award to recognize an outstanding veteran or veteran-owned business.

City Council President John A. Michitson will be presented with the President’s Citation for Innovation, according to Sherwood.

Tickets for the event, held from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the Atkinson Resort and Country Club, are $40 per person and may be reserved by calling 978-373-5663.
