Members of local police honor guards paid tribute to their brother in blue Officer Sean Gannon at the Cape Cod funeral Wednesday for the K-9 officer killed in the line of duty.
Several Andover Police officers joined the department’s honor guard contingent in Yarmouth to pay their respects during a massive funeral procession. Methuen sent 15 officers, including their honor guard, motorcycle unit and K-9 officers.

“It is important to show our support for Sgt. Gannon’s family, friends and coworkers in their time of grief. By traveling to Yarmouth and creating a standing in formation to create a ‘sea of blue,’ they know that they are loved and supported by Sean’s fellow brothers and sisters in blue,” Methuen Officer Derek Licata told WHAV.
Gannon was fatally shot Thursday, April 12 while serving a warrant in Marstons Mills. He was 32. Posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant, Gannon was described by Yarmouth Police Chief Frank Frederickson as the “Tom Brady of our department.”

Gannon’s K-9 partner Nero was released from a veterinary hospital following treatment for a gunshot wound on the same day as Gannon’s funeral. The dog is being cared for by retired Yarmouth Police K-9 Handler Peter McClelland until he is well enough to return to the Gannon family.
Thomas Latanowich, the career criminal suspected in Gannon’s murder, pleaded not guilty to murder during his arraignment this week.
