Holy Family Hospital’s Farmers Market begins a new season Friday at a new location, 254 Broadway (route 28), next to the Methuen Federal Credit Union.

Holy Family hosts the market, coordinated by Groundwork Lawrence, in partnership with the City of Methuen’s Office of Community Development. The market will be open each Friday from July 8 through Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The market accepts WIC, EBT/SNAP/Food Stamps, senior coupons, cash, credit cards and Holy Family Hospital Farmers Market Vouchers.

“The farmers market is a great addition to our community and I am excited to see it move to one of our city’s main thoroughfares, as I know that it will bring people down to our city center,” said Methuen Mayor Stephen N. Zanni.

“Health conditions such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease are prevalent in the communities we serve. Farmers markets offer an abundance of healthy food choices. Fresh fruits and vegetables promote healthy eating and good nutrition, which are preventive medicine for those health conditions and many more,” said Holy Family Hospital President Joseph Roach.  “The farmers market is entering its third year under the expert direction of Groundwork Lawrence, which is bringing together farmers, artisans and fun activities, “ he added.

The new location is highly accessible and visible because it is at the center of town, on a bus route, and offers free parking both on the street and in a parking lot directly behind the market, officials said.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with Holy Family Hospital and the City of Methuen to ensure that all residents have access to healthy, affordable local produce,” said Heather McMann, executive director of Groundwork Lawrence. “Our mission is to build strong, healthy communities. The new location for the farmers market supports the city’s downtown revitalization efforts, while also improving the health of the community.”
